Google: it takes some time to regain our trust

In an online discussion, a webmaster complained that his website didn’t get its rankings back after using the disavow links file.

Google’s John Mueller answered that it takes some time until Google trusts a website that spammed in the past:

“Looking at your site’s history, it looks like you’ve done quite a bit for quite some time, and it looks like our algorithms have picked up on that too.

So while resolving the manual action is a good way to start, you need to keep in mind that it can possibly take quite some time for our algorithms to regain trust in your site even after that.”

Avoid spam and focus on good backlinks

Google’s disavow link tool isn’t a magical weapon that will get your rankings back. Google stopped counting the bad backlinks to your website. That’s the reason why the rankings of many websites that relied on spammy backlinks dropped.

After disavowing all bad backlinks, these websites still do not have good backlinks that justify high rankings. That’s why most of the websites don’t get their high rankings back.

For that reason, it’s better to invest your time building new good backlinks. Do not concentrate too much on your bad backlinks. Google already knows that these backlinks are bad backlinks. Try to get good backlinks and your rankings will improve:
