Google: images on mobile pages should have alt text

In a Google webmaster hangout, Google’s John Mueller confirmed the importance of alternative image texts, especially for mobile pages.

“Specifically around images in general – not specific to image links, but images in general – especially on mobile, make sure that your images on mobile pages also have an alt text.”

IMG alt texts are important

Google’s upcoming mobile-first index will be a major change. John Mueller indicates that the alternative image texts will have an impact in the next index. In addition, alternative image texts improve the usability of your website for people who cannot load the images because of slow Internet connections and for people who use screen readers.
